redwelly bringing gardens to life across the country

Site: Micklecroft Gardens
Client: Shirley Salter
Partner: Spirita
Date: 10th October 2007

The finance directorate of the newly formed Spirita Ltd decided to do an event that would benefit someone with a physical disability.

Design of the Garden

The design had to reflect the need for level areas and other accessible features:

  • Raised Beds.
  • Low maintenance planting.
  • Large Decked area with walkway.
  • Extension of the patio.
  • New fencing.

Event Day

Main challenges of the site were:

  • Difficult ground (hard and dry).
  • Narrow access to the site.

The aim of the garden was to create an easily maintained area which would be suitable for a lady who was largely wheelchair bound.

The raised beds would help considerably and a ramp to get from the patio to the decked area was beneficial for ease of access. Extending the patio allowed for more access to the existing shed.

The Finance team constructed all of the raised beds and the decked area but digging the post holes for the deck supports proved difficult as the ground was hard. Getting the old fence down was a relatively easy task to getting it back up but the team took on the task and it was soon done.
