redwelly bringing gardens to life across the country

Site: Windrush Court
Client: Hallmark Community Housing Association
Partner: Rolls-Royce
Date: 16th October 2007

Design of the Garden

As the design was for a large group of residents with various needs the following was incorporated:

  • Wide walkways.
  • Large raised beds.
  • Seating.
  • Installation of a patio.
  • 2 new planting areas with trellis screening.

Event Day

Main challenges of the site were:

  • Horrid weather conditions.
  • Amount of excavation required for paving.
  • Limited access for machinery.
  • Tree roots under patio.

The day started off wet and dark and got progressively worse, luckily the team from Rolls-Royce were enthusiastic from the start and did not let the weather dampen their spirits right until the end.

There was alot of heavy work to be done and Trefor from the RedWelly team used a digger to excavate the site for the paving which was then leveled and laid. The railway sleepers were cut on site and 10 meters was painted to the entrance to the site.

The idea of the site was to allow the garden users to take on the maintenance of the beds as they had requested an interactive site that they would be able to use as a community. This was to include a large vegetable plot.
